Non Invasive ventilation (VNI)
Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is a treatment to help with your breathing. If your breathing becomes difficult and your muscles tire it can lead to a build-up of carbon dioxide and not enough oxygen getting into your blood.
It provides support to the lungs through a mask and a machine (ventilator).

The mask is connected to the machine and this pushes air into your lungs.
The machine does not do the breathing for you. It gently boosts each breath in and out to reduce the work that you have to do. It can feel a bit strange or even uncomfortable to begin with, however, most people find that they get used to it fairly quickly.
